In our discussion after meeting around this first FWCC query, I recall the following learnings:
1) The level of noise has increased dramatically since we were young -- the children are used to living in a world of noise (sirens, boom boxes, cars, planes, ec.) and they all clamor to be heard. Unlike us, they do not know about a silent world and only hearing the sounds of nature (frogs, crickets, etc).
2) the wasteful material used to box all what we purchase (cardboard box, plastic); the use of disposal material in our everyday life (diapers, tissues, cleaning cloths).
3) the rapid growth and building in the area (removal of wet lands, trees for homes); the traffic increase.
4) I as one individual can not fix any of these problesm, I can only not continue to contribute to make it worse.
5) migration of peoples into the area and the many new languages being heard in the streets.(once again) -- Beth's note as typing thinking about the history of Charleston and all the new peoples settleing in this port city in the past --the French Huegenots, British, the German Hession soliders who stayed, african slave population, Irish sailors, Spainish (pirates?).
6) Send the $$$$ I would have spent on my own travel to minister to the poor in foreign lands to them -- the $$$$ could help them more.
7) we use machines to do our work -- no longer do we dig up the tree stumps, but use a back hoe -- other examples.
8) focusing on change and how hard it is to do individually, yet we as a society are in a constant state of change.
